Video: Wike warns APC National Secretary to steer clear of Rivers politics

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has issued a strong warning to the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ajibola Basiru, over his recent comments concerning Rivers State.

Reacting sharply, Wike cautioned Basiru to refrain from making statements about Rivers politics, insisting that the state should not be taken lightly despite its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“Tell the APC National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, to leave Rivers State alone. Go and ask those who have tried it before,” Wike said. “Don’t take our support for President Tinubu for granted. You have to be careful with your statements.”

The former Rivers State governor further accused Basiru of speaking from a position of ignorance about the political dynamics of the oil-rich state.

“You are enjoying in Osun, but you don’t know those who did the work, and you are opening your mouth to talk about Rivers State,” Wike stated. “Anything you see, take it.”

Wike also hinted at escalating the matter within the APC hierarchy, saying he would draw the attention of the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, to Basiru’s remarks.

“When President Tinubu comes back, I will tell the Minister of Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, to warn him,” Wike added.

Emphasising his political strength and influence in Rivers State, the FCT minister declared that he was ready to confront anyone over the issue.

“I can challenge anybody. Rivers State is a no-go area,” he said.

The exchange underscores growing tensions within the ruling party, particularly over political control and influence in Rivers State, a key battleground with significant national relevance.
