Kogi Government deploys surveillance drones to combat insecurity
The Kogi State Government has taken a major step to strengthen security operations with the deployment of surveillance drones to support intelligence gathering and crime prevention across the state.
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo on Monday unveiled two high-capacity PH20 surveillance drones at the 12 Brigade Headquarters, Chari-Maigumeri Barracks, Lokoja, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to leveraging modern technology to tackle insecurity.
Speaking at the unveiling, the governor said the acquisition of the drones underscores the state government’s resolve to adopt cutting-edge security tools in line with global best practices. He noted that the equipment would enhance real-time surveillance, improve intelligence operations, and support security agencies in tracking and responding swiftly to criminal activities.
Ododo explained that the drones would be deployed to strategic locations across the state to assist in monitoring difficult terrains, forested areas and flashpoints often exploited by criminals. He added that the initiative complements ongoing collaboration between the state government and security agencies aimed at ensuring the safety of lives and property.
The governor commended the military and other security operatives for their continued efforts in maintaining peace in Kogi State, assuring them of sustained government support through improved logistics, technology and welfare.
Security experts at the event described the deployment as a timely intervention, noting that the use of aerial surveillance would significantly boost situational awareness and proactive policing in the state.
