Malami confirms EFCC invitation, vows full cooperation
ormer Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has acknowledged receiving an invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for questioning.
In a statement posted on his Facebook page, Malami described himself as a patriotic, law-abiding citizen and affirmed his readiness to honour the invitation. He reiterated his long-standing commitment to transparency and accountability in public office, promising to keep Nigerians informed as the situation progresses.
“Rooted in public service and in the spirit of transparency and accountability, I am committed to sharing with the Nigerian public the developments as they unfold,” he stated.
The EFCC, responsible for probing financial crimes such as corruption, embezzlement, and money laundering, has not disclosed the specific reasons behind Malami’s invitation. However, his public expression of cooperation has drawn widespread attention.
Malami, who served as Attorney-General between 2015 and 2023, handled several major legal and prosecutorial matters, often working closely with anti-graft institutions, including the EFCC. His invitation has therefore stirred considerable public interest.
By openly acknowledging the development, Malami signalled his willingness to engage with investigators and reinforced the broader push for transparency within Nigeria’s anti-corruption framework.
