Infantino condemns unacceptable conduct, calls for respect for match officials

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has strongly condemned acts of misconduct and violence in football, describing such behaviour as unacceptable and a threat to the integrity of the game.

In a statement shared on his official Instagram page, Infantino criticised the act of leaving the field of play in protest, stressing that such actions undermine the spirit and laws of football.

“It is unacceptable to leave the field of play in this manner, and equally, violence cannot be tolerated in our sport, it is simply not right,” Infantino said.

The FIFA boss also emphasised the need for players, teams and officials to respect the authority of match officials, both during and after games.

“We must always respect the decisions taken by the match officials on and off the field of play. Teams must compete on the pitch and within the Laws of the Game, because anything less puts the very essence of football at risk,” he added.

Infantino’s remarks come amid growing concerns over rising incidents of indiscipline and confrontations involving players and officials in recent high-profile matches. FIFA has consistently maintained a zero-tolerance stance on violence and actions that undermine fair play, warning that severe sanctions may be imposed on individuals or teams found guilty of such conduct.

The world football governing body has repeatedly called on all stakeholders to uphold respect, discipline and sportsmanship, insisting that these values remain central to preserving the credibility and global appeal of the game.
