CAF explains why Morocco dominates hosting of African football tournaments
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has explained that Morocco’s frequent selection as host of major African football tournaments is largely due to the lack of adequate resources in many other African countries.
CAF noted that staging continental competitions requires significant financial investment, modern infrastructure and strong organisational capacity, which several member associations are currently unable to provide.
As a result, Morocco has consistently emerged as a preferred option because of its readiness, world-class facilities and proven track record in hosting large-scale sporting events.
According to CAF, the North African nation has invested heavily in stadiums, training facilities, transport networks and security arrangements, making it capable of meeting the strict requirements needed to successfully organise international tournaments at short notice.
The football governing body stressed that its choice of host countries is not based on favouritism but on practical considerations aimed at ensuring smooth competitions, safety of participants and overall commercial success.
CAF also encouraged other African nations to continue developing their sports infrastructure and administrative capacity, noting that increased investment would broaden hosting opportunities across the continent in the future.
Morocco has recently hosted several high-profile CAF competitions and is set to stage more events, reinforcing its status as one of Africa’s leading football hubs.
