Adesanya-Davies Commends PFN for Promoting Peaceful Civic Engagement
Professor Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies has praised the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria for what she described as its courageous stand for peace, justice, national unity, and the protection of Christian values amid rising insecurity and economic hardship in the country.
In a statement issued in Abuja on May 25, 2026, the former presidential candidate and peace advocate commended the Christian body for providing spiritual leadership and moral guidance during what she called a difficult period in Nigeria’s democratic journey.
Reacting to ongoing nationwide calls for peaceful civic engagement, prayer movements, and advocacy for national healing, Adesanya-Davies said lawful protests and civic expressions aimed at restoring justice, security, and good governance remain constitutional rights that must be carried out responsibly and without violence.
“The Church must continue to stand as the light of the nation. The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria has remained consistent in promoting peace, unity, righteousness, and godly leadership in Nigeria,” she stated.
She stressed that Christians must not allow political tension, anger, or frustration to undermine the unity and peace of the nation.
According to her, Nigeria urgently needs healing, reconciliation, and national rebirth, adding that the PFN has demonstrated spiritual maturity by encouraging believers to remain peaceful while standing for truth and justice.
Adesanya-Davies also urged Nigerian youths, Christian leaders, and citizens participating in peaceful demonstrations to avoid violence, destruction of public property, and hate speech.
Quoting Matthew 5:9, she said, “Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God,” while also referencing 2 Chronicles 7:14 on prayer and national healing.
The clergywoman lamented the growing insecurity, kidnappings, and economic hardship affecting communities across the country, stressing the need for sincere national dialogue, justice, and people-oriented governance.
She further commended Christian organizations and civil society groups advocating peaceful reforms and national healing, noting that the unity of the Church remains vital to Nigeria’s democracy and peaceful coexistence.
“The Church must not keep silent in times of pain and injustice. However, our response must always reflect Christ — through peace, wisdom, prayer, and lawful action,” she added.
Adesanya-Davies also called on security agencies to protect citizens’ constitutional rights while maintaining law and order during peaceful gatherings nationwide.
She encouraged Muslim organizations to emulate peaceful reform efforts, saying insecurity and hardship now affect Nigerians across religious divides.
The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria is one of the country’s leading Christian umbrella bodies and has continued to play major roles in spiritual revival, interdenominational unity, and national advocacy.
