Tinubu Hails 4.43% GDP Growth
….Says Nigeria’s Economy on Irreversible Growth Path
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has welcomed the latest Gross Domestic Product (GDP) figures showing that Nigeria’s economy grew by 4.43 per cent in the second quarter of 2026.
The figure, released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Monday, represents an increase from the 4.23 per cent recorded in the corresponding quarter of 2025.
The report indicated growth across key sectors, including agriculture, manufacturing, oil and gas, and services, with the service sector remaining the largest contributor to the nation’s aggregate GDP.

In nominal terms, Nigeria’s GDP rose to N119.27 trillion in the second quarter of 2026, representing an 18.43 per cent increase from the N100.7 trillion recorded in the same period last year.
Reacting to the figures, Tinubu said the development showed that the economic reforms introduced by his administration were beginning to produce tangible results.
The President said his administration had spent the past three years implementing difficult reforms aimed at stabilising the economy and laying the foundation for sustainable prosperity.
“The results of the efforts are becoming very clear to all: The Renewed Hope Agenda is working,” Tinubu said.
He cited Nigeria’s trade surpluses, improved foreign reserves, stronger credit ratings, increased oil and gas production and the return of investors as evidence of progress under his administration.
Tinubu also highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects, including roads, railways and superhighways, as well as developments in the education sector.
According to him, universities have experienced a period without strikes, while the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) is expanding access to student loans and the Credit Corporation (CreditCorp) is providing affordable credit to civil servants.
The President acknowledged that challenges remained, particularly for vulnerable Nigerians, but said his administration was preparing additional measures to ease the burden on citizens.
He disclosed that efforts would be intensified in the coming weeks to provide cheaper transportation, increase food production and implement relief programmes targeted at communities at the grassroots.
“Under our watch, the economy is on the irreversible path to experience even more growth that all homes will feel at the dining table and in their pockets,” Tinubu said.
He assured Nigerians that the government would remain committed to converting improved macroeconomic performance into better living conditions and stronger economic outcomes for citizens.
The statement was signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
