Tinubu: Renewed Hope Agenda Working as Nigeria’s Economy Grows by 4.43%

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda is yielding results, following the latest Gross Domestic Product (GDP) figures showing Nigeria’s economy grew by 4.43 per cent in the second quarter of 2026.

Tinubu made the declaration while addressing Nigerians through his official X handle, noting that the growth represents an improvement from the 4.23 per cent recorded in the corresponding period of 2025.

According to the President, growth was recorded across major sectors of the economy, including agriculture, manufacturing, oil and gas, and services, with the services sector making the largest contribution to GDP.

He also disclosed that Nigeria’s nominal GDP rose to ₦119.27 trillion in the second quarter of 2026, representing an 18.43 per cent increase from ₦100.7 trillion recorded during the same period last year.

Tinubu said the figures were significant because they demonstrated the direction of the economy after three years of what he described as difficult but necessary reforms.

“In the past three years, we tried to do the hard part by implementing the necessary reforms to stabilise the economy.

“Now the economy is stabilised, and we have laid the foundation for a prosperous nation,” he said.

The President stressed that the reforms were not introduced to create hardship but to establish the conditions for long-term prosperity and ensure that economic gains eventually reach ordinary Nigerians.

He listed trade surpluses, improved foreign reserves, higher credit ratings, returning investors and increased oil and gas production among what he described as evidence of progress under his administration.

Tinubu also highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects, including roads, railways and superhighways, as well as developments in the education sector.

He noted that Nigerian universities were operating without strikes, while the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) was providing student loans and the CreditCorp was extending affordable credit to civil servants.

The President, however, criticised opposition politicians who, according to him, are promising to reverse the reforms if elected.
“We will not turn back.

“We will not return Nigeria to the policies and distortions we inherited and have spent the last three years correcting,” Tinubu declared.

He said the government’s immediate priority was to ensure that improved macroeconomic indicators translated into tangible benefits for Nigerians, particularly vulnerable households.

According to him, the administration would in the coming weeks introduce measures aimed at providing cheaper transportation, increasing food production and implementing relief programmes targeted at communities at the grassroots.

“The economy is on an irreversible path towards even stronger growth but growth must be something every Nigerian can feel at the dining table and in their pocket,” the President said.

He added: “That is the next phase of our work, and we are not resting on our oars.

“The Renewed Hope Agenda is working.”
