Adesanya-Davies Commends Tinubu Over Appointment of Young Professor as JAMB Registrar

Former presidential candidate, Bishop Professor Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, describing the move as a significant step toward youth inclusion, academic excellence, and innovation in public service.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Adesanya-Davies said the appointment of the 39-year-old systems engineering expert reflects a new leadership direction focused on merit, competence, and generational transformation in governance.

According to her, Nigeria’s progress depends on empowering visionary young professionals with integrity, creativity, and technological expertise to manage critical national institutions.

She noted that Professor Aina’s appointment, following the completion of the tenure of Professor Ishaq Oloyede, demonstrates that excellence and professionalism can still be rewarded irrespective of age.

“I wholeheartedly commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for this strategic and commendable appointment. Nigeria needs competent, energetic, technologically inclined, and intellectually sound leaders in sensitive national institutions such as JAMB,” she stated.

Adesanya-Davies added that the appointment would inspire Nigerian youths, scholars, and future leaders to pursue excellence and national service.

She also stressed the importance of education in national development, saying credible examination systems and transparent admission processes are necessary to restore confidence in Nigeria’s educational sector.

The former presidential candidate further praised outgoing JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, for his reforms and contributions to the examination body, expressing confidence that the incoming registrar would build on existing achievements.

She urged Nigerians to support reforms aimed at strengthening educational institutions, digital innovation, transparency, accountability, and meritocracy across all sectors.

Quoting Proverbs 4:7, she said, “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.”

She also cited Daniel 1:17, emphasizing the importance of knowledge, skill, and wisdom in leadership and nation-building.

Professor Segun Aina, a Computer Engineering scholar at Obafemi Awolowo University, was recently appointed by President Tinubu as the new JAMB Registrar and is considered one of the youngest individuals to occupy the position in the agency’s history.
