U.S. Congressional delegation arrives in Nigeria, hosted by NSA Ribadu to deepen security ties

A United States Congressional Delegation has arrived in Nigeria for a series of high-level engagements aimed at strengthening security cooperation between both countries.

The team was received in Abuja by Nigeria’s National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, who emphasized the country’s commitment to deepening strategic ties with Washington.

The visit follows last month’s high-level security talks in Washington, where both sides discussed expanding collaboration on counter-terrorism, intelligence sharing, and regional stabilization efforts.

The return trip by lawmakers underscores growing bipartisan interest in supporting Nigeria’s security priorities.

The delegation is led by senior members of the U.S. House of Representatives, including Mario Díaz-Balart, Norma Torres, Scott Franklin, Juan Ciscomani, and Riley Moore. During meetings in Abuja, discussions are expected to focus on joint counter-terrorism initiatives, strengthening the fight against violent extremism, and enhancing cooperation across West Africa’s rapidly evolving security landscape.

NSA Ribadu expressed confidence that the visit will further solidify the Nigeria–U.S. strategic security partnership. He reaffirmed Nigeria’s readiness to expand cooperation in intelligence, defence modernization, and regional peacebuilding efforts.

“We are ready to deepen our cooperation with the United States in counter-terrorism, regional stability, and our broader strategic security partnership,” Ribadu said, noting that Nigeria views the relationship as critical to addressing shared security challenges.

The delegation is expected to meet with key government officials, security chiefs, and members of the National Assembly before concluding its visit.
