Tinubu Orders Deployment of 5,000 AI Cameras to Tackle Insecurity in Plateau

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced plans by the Federal Government to deploy over 5,000 artificial intelligence-enabled digital cameras across Plateau State as part of efforts to combat rising insecurity.

The President made the disclosure on Thursday during a visit to Jos, where he commiserated with victims of the March 29 attacks in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area, which claimed several lives.

“I promise you that this experience will not repeat itself,” Tinubu assured residents, while directing security chiefs to apprehend those responsible for the killings.

He specifically tasked the Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, the Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, and the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to “unearth and find the killers” of innocent citizens.

According to the President, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijjani, will oversee the immediate rollout of the surveillance system, beginning in Jos and later expanding statewide. The initiative builds on similar security infrastructure already deployed in Lagos and Enugu.

Tinubu expressed deep sorrow over the violence, noting that no compensation could replace lost lives. “No amount of money can recompense for lost souls,” he said, while urging affected families to find solace.

He also directed the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Bernard Doro, to compile data on victims to ensure equitable distribution of relief support.

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang described the attack as a temporary setback, expressing confidence that security agencies would restore peace. He thanked the President for approving the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards to strengthen local security.

Stakeholders at the meeting, including former governors Jonah David Jang and Simon Lalong, called for a high-level meeting in Abuja involving key leaders and traditional rulers to find lasting solutions to the recurring crisis.

They stressed that while security agencies play a vital role, sustainable peace ultimately depends on unity and cooperation among Plateau residents.

The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to restoring peace, stating that governance must prioritize security, prosperity, and inclusiveness for all citizens.
