Ambassador Braimah Moves to Reposition Nigerian Community in Hungary
…Seeks NIDO Partnership
Nigeria’s Ambassador to Hungary, Engr. Abasi Ogwime Braimah, has commenced moves to strengthen relations between the Nigerian Embassy and the Nigerian community in Hungary, with a renewed focus on welfare, unity, representation and collective progress.
Ambassador Braimah made this known on Friday in Budapest when he received the executive members of the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation (NIDO), Hungary Chapter, during a familiarisation meeting at the Nigerian Embassy.
The engagement provided an opportunity for the Ambassador and NIDO leadership to discuss issues affecting Nigerians in Hungary and explore practical ways of deepening cooperation between the diplomatic mission and community organisations.
The NIDO delegation was led by its Chairman, Hon. Chief Komolafe Omotunde, and included the General Secretary, Aese Agaigbe; Financial Secretary, Oyun Adesoye; Social Secretary, Aese Cynthia Aese; and Treasurer, Erenwa Olaedo Cynthia.

Speaking during the meeting, Ambassador Braimah said the welfare and advancement of Nigerians in the Diaspora could not be achieved through isolated efforts, stressing the need for sustained dialogue, cooperation and shared responsibility.
He pledged to give greater attention to the legitimate interests and welfare of Nigerians in Hungary and other countries under his diplomatic responsibility, while promoting unity, constructive engagement and mutual support within the Nigerian community.
The Ambassador also called for a stronger working relationship between the Embassy, NIDO and other Nigerian community organisations, noting that collaboration would be critical to addressing challenges facing Nigerians and creating opportunities for collective advancement.
According to him, a well-organised and cohesive Nigerian community can contribute significantly to Nigeria’s image, strengthen people-to-people relations and promote the country’s broader diplomatic and economic interests.
He assured the community that the Embassy would support initiatives aimed at advancing the aspirations and legitimate interests of Nigerians in the Diaspora.
NIDO pledges partnership
Responding on behalf of the Nigerian community, NIDO Hungary Chairman, Hon. Chief Komolafe Omotunde, assured Ambassador Braimah of the organisation’s readiness to work closely with the Embassy.
Omotunde pledged NIDO’s support for programmes aimed at improving the welfare and wellbeing of Nigerians in Hungary, promoting unity and responsible citizenship, and strengthening engagement between the community and the Embassy.
He expressed confidence that closer cooperation would provide a more effective platform for identifying challenges confronting Nigerians and developing constructive solutions.
The meeting ended on a positive note, with both sides expressing optimism that stronger collaboration would improve communication, representation and mutual understanding between the Embassy and the Nigerian community.
The engagement is expected to herald a new phase in Embassy-community relations, with welfare, unity and cohesion placed at the centre of efforts to build a stronger and better-coordinated Nigerian community in Hungary.
The development also underscores the potential role of Nigerians in Hungary in advancing Nigeria’s image and interests while contributing positively to Hungarian society.
