Troops Repel ISWAP Attack on Gajiram Military Base
… Recover Weapons and Ammunition
Troops of the Joint Task Force, North East, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have repelled an attack by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on a Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Gajiram, Nganzai Local Government Area of Borno State.
The attack occurred at about 12:20 a.m. on Monday, August 10, 2026, when a large number of terrorists attempted to overrun the military position.
According to a statement issued by the Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Captain Mohammed Goni, the troops responded with intense firepower, forcing the terrorists to retreat after suffering heavy casualties.
Several terrorists were reportedly neutralised during the encounter, while troops recovered weapons, ammunition and communication equipment from the attackers.

The military said surveillance footage reviewed after the engagement also confirmed that the retreating terrorists evacuated several casualties from the battlefield.
However, the attack resulted in injuries to a few soldiers after part of the defensive position was temporarily breached. Some combat equipment and vehicles were also damaged by Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) fire.
The injured personnel were promptly airlifted and are currently stable and receiving medical attention, the statement said.
Following the attack, troops have remained deployed around the FOB and adjoining areas to dominate the environment, monitor developments and prevent further attempts by the terrorists to re-engage the military.
The Theatre Command urged residents of Gajiram and neighbouring communities to remain calm and continue their lawful activities, while encouraging members of the public to report suspicious movements or activities to security agencies.
The military also provided a dedicated intelligence-sharing line, 07084988859, for members of the public to pass relevant information.
The Theatre Command said exploitation of the operational area and further assessment of the terrorists’ casualties and activities were ongoing.
It reaffirmed the military’s commitment to sustaining pressure on ISWAP terrorists until lasting peace and stability are restored across the North-East.
