PDP BoT Urges Unity, Mobilisation Ahead of National Convention
The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on party leaders and members to prioritise unity and strengthen grassroots mobilisation as the party prepares for its upcoming national convention.
Speaking at the 86th meeting of the BoT in Abuja on Wednesday, the BoT Chairman, Mao Ohuabunwa, said the meeting was taking place at a critical moment in the life of the party, urging leaders to approach internal matters with wisdom, patience and calm reflection.
Ohuabunwa described the BoT as the custodian of the party’s values and constitutional integrity, stressing that the body must continue to provide guidance and stability to the party during its ongoing reorganisation process.
He said the PDP had recorded significant progress in rebuilding its internal structures, noting that ward and local government congresses conducted across the country were largely peaceful, transparent and reflective of the party’s democratic principles.
According to him, the state congresses scheduled to hold later this week will further strengthen the party’s structures nationwide and help consolidate the reorganisation process.
The BoT chairman also disclosed that preparations were in advanced stages for the party’s national convention scheduled for March 29 and 30, which he said would provide an opportunity for the PDP to reposition itself and reaffirm its commitment to democratic ideals and national service.
Ohuabunwa further welcomed recent rulings of the Court of Appeal, which affirmed the legality and authority of the party’s National Caretaker Committee led by Abdulrahman Mohammed, saying the judgments had brought clarity and stability to the party.
He added that as a law-abiding political organisation, the PDP would continue to respect court decisions and conduct its affairs in line with the rule of law and its constitution.
The BoT also emphasised the importance of expanding the party’s membership through the ongoing electronic registration exercise, describing it as a key step towards modernising the party’s membership system and ensuring a credible national database.
Ohuabunwa therefore urged state and zonal party leaders to intensify efforts in mobilising members across the federation to participate in the e-registration process.
He noted that despite past challenges, the PDP has remained resilient and possesses the national spread and institutional depth required to overcome difficulties.
The BoT chairman called on party leaders to approach deliberations with a spirit of reconciliation and collective responsibility, adding that unity and stability remain crucial to strengthening the party and restoring public confidence.
