MOVE TO RECALL MELAYE FROM SENATE IS STILL BIRTH, SAYS GROUP

The move by Kogi people to recall Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District,Dino Melaye over number of allegations has been described as a still birth.
A group of participants on penpushing, a social media network, made the observation on Sunday,in reaction to the news of the constituency to recall him, with advice that the people should be more concern on development of the state.
The Kogi West Senatorial District had listed 18 allegations against Dino Melaye, and started the process to recall him from the National Assembly, where he is representing them.
However, some participants on penpushing platform posited that, the process may not hold water, nor see the light of the day, explaining that, a process to recall a lawmaker in Nigeria is cumbersome and frustrating.
Gbenga Onayiga, a notable participants on the platform, said having watched the process on the television,it sound more of a drama, pointing out that those involved were not serious, but just being used
‘I watched the drama on TV. The characters involved were not looking serious. They’re just being used. The recall mechanism has never worked in Nigeria and I doubt if it will work this time around. Kogi people should just focus on developing d poor state’.
Similarly, another eminent personality on the platform, Yusuph Olanniyonu said the recall process sound more of a mere wish and drama being staged, stressing that Melaye he knows has remain a good fighter.
‘A mere wish. Which Senator has been recalled since 1999? This is a mere drama being staged by the state Governor. I know Sen. Dino Melaye does not run from a fight. It is just that this may be another diversion from the challenges of development in Kogi State’.
Also Doyin Lasisi in her own remark, simply wrote,’the process is cumbersome and am afraid, not visible!’,while another participants, Waheed Quadri said, ‘One of the reasons some of our Senators are misbehaving is because the process is cumbersome’,and Sanjo Adesegun wrote
‘Mere drama. Not in this present senate regime
But Demola Ekundayo in his own comment said,it was not a good defence that because no lawmaker have been recalled since 1999,but posited that, that does not remove the power of consituent to recall Melaye.
‘I don’t think this is a good ‘defence’. The fact that no Senator has been recalled since 1999 does not remove the power of recall from their constituents, most especially if the Senator is not a good representative of such constituents’.
Ekundayo however, admitted that, the process is cumbersome and frustrating, but emphasised that, calling the move as a mere wish may not be correct.
‘Maybe I want to go with the argument that the process could be cumbersome & frustrating. Calling it ‘mere wish’, I don’t get. I may be wrong in my submission though’,he said
In his own submission, Ayo Arowojolu wrote,’Symptomic of the times we are in. Truth has fallen dead on the street. Truth and the proper path has no meaning anymore. Wrong is now right and vice-versa. A pity! The cowboys are now in control of the Senate!’
