MAPOLY Is Back, Will Be Great Again – Rector

By ABIODUN JIMOH, ABEOKUTA
Acting Rector, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, Dr. Adeoye Odedeji has reiterated that the past glory of the institution is back and would be great again.
Dr. Odedeji affirmed this at the 3rd Annual Retreat organised by Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP), MAPOLY chapter held in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital on Tuesday, barely three years after the institution comatose.
The rector further urged all staff to be more dedicated and ready to sacrifice their energies and resources towards making the institution greater than before.
The elated Dr. Odedeji noted the remark of the committee who recommended that MAPOLY should be recognised and approved by National Board of Technical Education (NBTE) as polytechnic, and to admit students with effect from 2019/2020 academic session on February 10th, 2020.
He stressed that the committee consisted of sixteen members led by Alhaji Abubakar Mohammed, Chairman of chairmen of all Governing Council of Federal Polytechnics in Nigeria; Special Adviser to Federal Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu; Others were Director of Programs of Technical, Mallam Musa, and host of others.
He hereby assured staff that the high impact TETFUND intervention would be available by the end of this year, and that money is one billion naira. “This is not the time to pitch tent or to create confusion or crisis. Until February 6th, 2020, we are illegal staff operating on illegal institution, now we are original staff.
“Today, we can rejoice that we are full fledge staff of MAPOLY. God has used Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun to open the channel. There will be job satisfaction and that value will be put in place. The cost of value is stronger than the whole objective visions and mission.
“We will begin awarding Bachelor in Technology (B. Tech) without affiliation to any body. We can stand on our own, once we do that, all polytechnics in South-West will be depending on us. We have the potentials, why are we limiting ourselves. We have to be ethical in what we are doing. The new MAPOLY is dominated by staff that are dedicated and energetic.”
On his own part, Comrade Osifalujo Babatunde Chibuzor, Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP), MAPOLY chapter stated: “We give glory to God that as usual, all our staff having gone back and having our jobs assurance by Prince Dapo Abiodun, the executive governor of Ogun State.
“We are going to rededicate ourselves and be more dedicated to adjust and that is part of the reasons why we are holding this retreat, so that we will know that yes we are still in job. So, you don’t expect anything less than the the best from us.
“This time last year, some of our colleagues never believed that we will be here, but some of us still believed that with God, all things are possible. The truth of the matter is that it has not been very easy.
“The struggle has been very keen and you know what it takes for a man or woman not to be paid salaries for eight to ten months and most importantly you go to work and don’t even know your status whether you are still in employment or not.
“There is nothing that can be so painful like that, just going to work with one faith, just believing that yes, God will do it sometime one day. It has not been a wonderful experience at all. But today, we bless the name of the Lord and at least we know that we have a job and we have a life back. So we appreciate God.”
