Israel pledges intelligence, strategic support to Nigeria against terrorism

Israel has announced its readiness to support the Nigerian government in tackling the country’s growing insecurity, particularly threats posed by Islamic State affiliates and other terrorist groups.

Israel’s Ambassador to Nigeria, M. Freeman, disclosed this while speaking on ongoing security cooperation between both countries. According to him, Israel will provide intelligence sharing and strategic support to assist Nigeria in confronting activities of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), Islamic State Sahel Province (IS-Sahel), and other extremist groups operating within and around the country.

The ambassador noted that terrorism remains a global challenge that requires collective action, adding that Israel’s experience in intelligence gathering, counterterrorism strategies, and security coordination could be valuable in strengthening Nigeria’s efforts to restore peace and stability.

Nigeria has continued to face security challenges in several regions, including insurgency in the North-East, banditry and kidnappings in the North-West and North-Central, and other violent crimes across the country. The proposed support from Israel is expected to complement ongoing efforts by Nigerian security agencies and international partners.

The development underscores deepening bilateral relations between Nigeria and Israel, particularly in the areas of security cooperation and intelligence exchange, as Nigeria intensifies measures to curb terrorism and safeguard lives and property nationwide.
