Fubara’s Kinsman Joins Rivers Guber Race on NDC Platform
A kinsman of Siminalayi Fubara, identified as Blessing Fubara, has officially entered the Rivers State governorship race after obtaining the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) expression of interest and nomination forms.
According to reports, Blessing Fubara picked up the forms on Wednesday in Abuja, just hours before Governor Fubara announced his withdrawal from the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary ahead of the 2027 elections.
Both Governor Fubara and Blessing Fubara are said to hail from Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area of Rivers State, although it remains unclear whether they are directly related.
Confirming the development, the Rivers State Chairman of the NDC, Success Jack, said the party was fully prepared for the 2027 general elections.
“Yes, he (Blessing Fubara Snr) obtained his expression of interest form yesterday in Abuja, and we are prepared and still preparing to win not only the governorship election, but all the elections in Rivers State come 2027 general election,” he was quoted as saying.
The development comes amid reports that several loyalists of Governor Fubara have begun defecting to the NDC ahead of the 2027 polls, a move political observers say could reshape the political landscape in Rivers State.
The latest development is expected to intensify political realignments in the oil-rich state as parties continue early preparations for the next general elections.
