Two new Suspected Ebola Cases identified in Nigeria

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has identified two suspected cases of Ebola disease in Nigeria’s North-East region, prompting the isolation of the individuals and the commencement of laboratory investigations.

The agency disclosed this in an update on Saturday, stating that contact identification and listing were ongoing as health authorities worked to establish whether the individuals were infected with the deadly virus.

The NCDC, however, cautioned Nigerians against treating the suspected cases as confirmed infections, stressing that the outcome of laboratory tests would determine their status.

“Being classified as suspected cases does not mean they are confirmed Ebola cases; confirmation is subject to laboratory results,” the agency said.

The health agency urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and maintain preventive measures, including regular handwashing, proper sanitation and compliance with public health guidelines.

It also advised the public to rely on verified information and follow guidance issued by relevant health authorities.

The NCDC assured Nigerians that further updates would be provided as more verified information becomes available.
