Coalition Demands Malami’s Inclusion on Terror Watchlist Over “Destabilisation Agenda”

The Coalition for Justice and Equity (CJE) has urged Nigerian security agencies and the international community to place former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, on a terrorism watchlist, alleging that his recent actions pose a threat to national peace and stability.
The group condemned Malami’s petition against Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, describing it as “a smokescreen to promote a terrorist agenda” and “a dangerous, politically motivated ploy to undermine Kebbi and Nigeria’s security.”
In a statement signed by its Executive Director, Comrade Isaac Olayemi, the coalition accused Malami of engaging in “brazen political opportunism” through what it called “mischievously fabricated allegations.”
Malami, in a petition dated September 10, 2025, addressed to top security chiefs, alleged that Governor Idris was secretly backing the importation of foreign mercenaries, thugs, and illegal arms into the state.
But CJE dismissed the claims as a desperate diversion from Malami’s own alleged ties to insecurity, recalling reports—just two days earlier—accusing him of aiding banditry in Kebbi.
“During Malami’s eight-year tenure as Attorney General under President Buhari, bandits and terrorists wreaked havoc across Kebbi and other parts of Nigeria. Yet he never raised a voice of concern, offered condolence to victims, or used his office to push for decisive action,” Olayemi said.
He accused Malami of hypocrisy and of trying to reinvent himself as a “messiah” after years of alleged corruption, abuse of office, and shielding allies from justice.
Olayemi further questioned the credibility of Malami’s intelligence, suggesting: “Perhaps he knows so much because he is part of the orchestration.”
The coalition praised Governor Idris for strengthening cooperation with security agencies, supporting victims of violence, and restoring peace in troubled communities, dismissing Malami’s claims as “laughable and unfounded.”
It warned that weaponising security issues for political gain was “treasonable,” stressing: “Lives and property must never be reduced to pawns on the chessboard of ambition.”
CJE therefore called on the National Security Adviser, Inspector-General of Police, DSS, and other security agencies to subject Malami’s finances, movements, networks, and associates to close scrutiny, insisting that his activities warrant inclusion on a terrorism watchlist.
