ADC: INEC Has Not Endorsed List of Our State Chairmen
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has denied claims circulating in the media that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed and published a list of its state chairmen across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
In a statement issued on Sunday via X, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, dismissed the report as false and misleading. He stressed that INEC has not, “either officially or unofficially,” validated any such list.
According to Abdullahi, the publication was nothing more than “fake news” aimed at sowing confusion within the party. He reminded members and the public that the appointment and ratification of state executives remain an internal matter regulated by the ADC’s constitution.
“INEC only acknowledges submissions made by the party through the appropriate channels and after due process,” he explained, adding that no comprehensive list of state chairmen has been filed with or endorsed by the commission.
The party also reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, internal democracy, and discipline, urging stakeholders to beware of misinformation.
The clarification comes amid ongoing leadership disputes within the ADC. Recently, INEC recognised former Senate President David Mark as the party’s national chairman, a development that has deepened internal divisions.
A court has since summoned Mark and the party’s National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, over the leadership tussle. The ADC, however, insists there is no court injunction restraining INEC from recognising its current leadership, describing contrary reports as further fabrications by “desperate political jobbers.”
