CAIDOV Backs Oyo Teachers’ Protest, Demands Rescue of Abducted Pupils and Educators
The Centre Against Injustice and Domestic Violence (CAIDOV) has commended teachers across Oyo State for what it described as their doggedness, resilience and patriotism as they commenced protests over recent attacks on schools, including the abduction of teachers and pupils and the killing of an educator.
In a statement issued by the Executive Director of CAIDOV, Gbenga Soloki, the organisation praised the teachers for refusing to allow fear to define the learning environment and for standing up for the safety of pupils and education workers.
According to Soloki, the protest has become a voice for parents, pupils and the slain teacher, stressing that educators have demonstrated courage by demanding improved security in schools.
“We salute Oyo teachers for your doggedness in the face of danger, your resilience after losing a colleague, and your patriotic moves to defend the right of every child to learn safely,” he said.
CAIDOV described the protest as more than a labour action, calling it a patriotic duty aimed at protecting the future of children in the state. The organisation argued that teachers taking to the streets to demand security reflects a failure of government to guarantee the safety of schools.
The group called for the immediate rescue of all abducted teachers and pupils, urging authorities to treat the matter as a state emergency. It also demanded justice for the murdered teacher through a thorough investigation and prosecution of those responsible.
CAIDOV further urged the Oyo State Government to fully implement the Safe School Initiative by providing fencing, trained security personnel and emergency communication systems in public schools.
The organisation also appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde to engage directly with the protesting teachers and address their concerns with concrete commitments.
Soloki maintained that education cannot thrive under insecurity and called on security agencies to ensure the safety of protesters while urging the government to respond with decisive action rather than intimidation.
“To every Oyo teacher on the streets today, CAIDOV stands with you. Your courage is our courage. Bring back our teachers. Bring back our pupils,” the statement concluded.
