FCT General Hospitals Receive Modern Vein-Finding Devices to Boost Healthcare Delivery

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has equipped general hospitals across the FCT with 48 modern vein-finding devices and related accessories to enhance healthcare delivery and improve patient care.

The equipment, distributed to the 14 facilities under the FCT Hospitals Management Board (HMB), was provided through the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Speaking during the distribution exercise, the Mandate Secretary of the Health Services and Environment Secretariat (HSES), Dr. Dolapo Fasawe, described the devices as essential tools that would significantly improve the accuracy and efficiency of venous access procedures in hospitals.

According to her, the advanced medical equipment helps healthcare professionals locate veins more easily for intravenous (IV) cannulation, blood sample collection, and other procedures. The technology is particularly beneficial for patients with difficult venous anatomy, including children, elderly persons, and individuals with obesity.

Fasawe noted that the devices would reduce multiple needle attempts, making hospital visits less traumatic and more comfortable for patients. She added that the technology would also assist newly trained doctors in establishing intravenous access more effectively and with greater confidence.

The vein finders are expected to improve clinical efficiency by enabling healthcare workers to assess superficial vein patterns and carry out procedures with increased accuracy.

As part of the rollout, healthcare personnel from the beneficiary hospitals participated in practical training sessions on the operation, application, maintenance, and safe handling of the equipment. The training was designed to ensure optimal use of the devices and guarantee their long-term sustainability across the facilities.

The initiative, according to the FCTA, reflects the administration’s commitment to modernising healthcare infrastructure, improving patient experiences, and supporting medical professionals with innovative technologies that enhance service delivery.
