Breaking: Lagos Govt orders temporary suspension of Lekki–Epe expressway repairs

The Lagos State Government has directed contractors working on the ongoing rehabilitation of the Eti-Osa/Lekki/Epe Expressway to vacate the site effective Thursday, 4 December 2025.

According to the directive, the contractors are to pause all construction activities and resume work in January 2026, a decision authorities say is aimed at ensuring smooth vehicular movement during the busy festive period.

A government statement notes that the suspension is part of broader traffic management measures designed to ease congestion on one of the state’s most strategic and heavily travelled corridors, especially as holiday travel, shopping, and events peak across Lagos.

The Eti-Osa/Lekki/Epe Expressway has been undergoing phased rehabilitation as part of the state’s infrastructure renewal programme. The government assured that the pause in construction will not affect project timelines, and appealed to motorists to cooperate with traffic officials deployed across the corridor.

More updates are expected in the coming days as the state fine-tunes its festive season mobility plan.
