Remi Tinubu, APC Senators to Disburse ₦12.1bn to Elderly, Persons With Disabilities
Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has announced plans to disburse ₦12.1 billion to elderly citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs) under two programmes of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI).
The funds will be distributed across the country’s 109 senatorial districts as part of efforts to provide economic assistance to vulnerable Nigerians.
Under the programmes, 250 persons with disabilities in each senatorial district will receive ₦200,000 each on December 3, 2026, to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
Similarly, the RHI Elderly Support Scheme will provide ₦200,000 each to 250 elderly beneficiaries in every senatorial district on December 17, 2026.

Oluremi Tinubu, who chairs the Renewed Hope Initiative, announced the programmes during a stakeholders’ meeting with serving All Progressives Congress (APC) senators and senatorial candidates.
The meeting was attended by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Abbas Tajudeen and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda, among other political and legislative leaders.
The First Lady explained that the initiative adopted the senatorial district model to improve grassroots distribution and ensure that the interventions reach more eligible beneficiaries.
She said the elderly support programme targets citizens aged 65 years and above, while the initiative would also extend both interventions to veterans in line with its existing practice.
Oluremi Tinubu charged APC senators and senatorial candidates with ensuring transparent distribution of the funds, stressing that the programmes must benefit deserving citizens irrespective of political affiliation, ethnicity or religion.
She urged the political representatives to ensure that the assistance reaches eligible constituents rather than being restricted to APC members.
The economic empowerment programme for persons with disabilities is in its second edition, while the elderly support scheme is holding its fourth edition since inception.
The two interventions fall under the economic empowerment and social investment components of the Renewed Hope Initiative.
The Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives and APC national chairman commended the First Lady’s commitment to supporting vulnerable groups.
They said the initiative was designed to strengthen social welfare, address gaps within communities and improve the relationship between leaders and the people they represent.
Members of the Board of Trustees of the Renewed Hope Initiative also attended the stakeholders’ meeting.
