ADC Raises Alarm Over INEC Timetable, Says Membership Requirement ‘Unrealistic’

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expressed concern over the feasibility of meeting key requirements outlined by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

ADC spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the timelines set by INEC place an almost impossible burden on political parties, particularly with regard to membership registration.

According to him, the Electoral Act requires parties to compile and submit a fully digitalised membership register across all 36 states within a short timeframe of about 32 days, alongside notices for congresses or conventions.

Abdullahi argued that such expectations are impractical, noting that even the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) began its membership registration process as far back as February 2025 and engaged consultants to develop its digital database.

“What took them over a year to accomplish is now expected of other parties within just one month,” he said, warning that the requirement could hinder the participation of smaller parties in the 2027 elections.

The ADC called for a review of the timetable and conditions to ensure a level playing field for all political parties.
