Fresh Revelation: How Babangida Warned Obasanjo Against Atiku — Duke
Former Cross River State Governor, Donald Duke, has claimed that former military Head of State, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, warned former President Olusegun Obasanjo against placing too much trust in his then Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar.
Duke made the claim while reflecting on the political relationship between Obasanjo and Atiku, who served together from 1999 to 2007.
According to him, Babangida had cautioned Obasanjo about Atiku, suggesting that the former Vice-President could not be completely trusted.
The claim comes amid renewed political discussions surrounding Atiku’s presidential ambitions and his relationship with political leaders ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Atiku, who served as Vice-President under Obasanjo for eight years, later fell out with the former president, particularly over Atiku’s decision to challenge Obasanjo’s alleged third-term ambition and his own presidential aspirations.
Duke’s statement adds another dimension to the long-standing political history involving Obasanjo, Atiku and Babangida, three prominent figures who have played significant roles in Nigeria’s political development.
