‎CDHR, Government Security Agency Protest Against Incessant Kidnapping

Ogun State Chapter of ‎ Committee for Defence of Human Rights,(CDHR),on Thursday in collaboration  with government owned security agencies embarked on a protest  against incessant cases of kidnapping and other social vices.
The protest which took place on major streets of Abeokuta was led by the Chairman of the Non-Governmental Organisation, Comrade Olayinka Folarin, and  terminated at Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan,Abeokuta to seek audience with Governor Ibikunle Amosun.
The walk had representatives of Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police , Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Vigilante Service of Ogun State and others in attendance.
In his speech at the governor’s office,Folarin explained that the walk was organised to reawaken the state government on the need to be more proactive in dealing with security matters.
He stated that the peace, which is being enjoyed in the state, cannot be traded off,and also identified the need for the public to be more educated and enlightened towards providing useful for security agencies.
The Human Rights leader  also called for the urgent inauguration of the State Security Task Force, which he said will go a long way to combat crimes.
“We are here to intimate the governor that CDHR and other civil society organisations  have been doing a lot to campaign against all these social vices in our society’,Folarin stressed.
“We appreciate your kind support for security agencies to push more in this aspect but we will really appreciate if the task force committee is inaugurated as soon as possible so as to contain their (criminals) excesses on time”, he stated.
Governor Ibikunle Amosun in his reaction  maintained that the implementation of the state’s anti-kidnapping law would deter criminals from engaging in the crime.
“We have a law that will come down heavily on anyone that will get involved in kidnapping. Though we have not made it a capital offence but we believe that the law as it is, if well implemented, should deter them from going ahead with this criminal act.’,Amosun stated
“Criminals have now invaded everywhere to perpetrate dastardly act of kidnapping and terrorizing our people. I am happy that you are calling attention to this. When you draw attention to it like this, everybody will be aware”,he said.
Amosun added that improved partnership with the federal government will rid the country of criminals.
