Wike hails PDP scribe Anyanwu at 60

Describes Him as a Man of Character and Principle

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has lauded the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Samuel Anyanwu, as a man of integrity and strong moral character, during a celebration to mark his 60th birthday in Abuja on Saturday.

In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, Wike praised Anyanwu’s consistency and courage in the face of political challenges, describing him as a leader who stands firm by his convictions.

The birthday event, which also featured the launch of a book titled “Sam Daddy In My Eyes”, attracted a large crowd—something Wike said was a testament to Anyanwu’s popularity and grassroots appeal.

“My friends and I congratulate you not only on reaching this milestone of 60 years but also on your well-deserved confirmation as the substantive National Secretary of our party,” Wike said.

He assured Anyanwu of his continued backing, declaring, “We will stand by you, no matter the noise or opposition. What matters is that you’ve stood your ground and earned the respect of many.”

Wike urged the celebrant to remain confident and assertive, saying, “You don’t win a battle and then go begging those you’ve defeated. They should be the ones seeking reconciliation with you. Hold your head high—you’ve earned your victory.”

He emphasized that character, not wealth or material offerings, defines a true leader. “If a man lacks character, it doesn’t matter what he brings to the table—his food or his riches—he has nothing,” he said.

Reflecting on his earlier advice to Anyanwu during the internal party crisis, Wike noted that he had warned him about the difficulty of facing political opposition from various quarters, including governors. He recalled asking, “Are you sure you’re ready for this? Because this is not going to be easy. But if you remain resolute, you will prevail.”

Wike commended Anyanwu for staying true to his words despite intense pressure, saying, “You have proven to me that you’re a man of your word—consistent, committed, and courageous. That’s rare.”

He also thanked former Senate President Bukola Saraki for publicly acknowledging Anyanwu’s steadfastness and credibility.

Sharing a personal moment, Wike said, “His mother called me recently and said, ‘My son, I’m proud that people like you take firm decisions and stand by them. That is what leadership is about.’”

He concluded by reaffirming the value of integrity in public life: “Character is not sold in the marketplace. You either have it or you don’t. Senator Anyanwu has it in abundance.”
