Wanted kidnap suspect arrested by DSS at Abuja Hajj Camp
A man wanted in connection with multiple kidnappings in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has been arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) at the Abuja Hajj camp.
The arrest took place on Saturday, May 18, during the routine screening of pilgrims preparing to travel to Saudi Arabia for this year’s Hajj. Security sources confirmed that the suspect, identified as Yahaya Zango, was apprehended after presenting his travel documents alongside other pilgrims from Abuja.
Zango, a resident of Paikon-Kore in the Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT, had been on the run following a manhunt launched by security agencies in connection with a series of kidnappings in and around the capital city.
A security operative at the Hajj camp revealed, “It was during the screening this afternoon that DSS operatives identified and immediately arrested him.”
A senior official at the Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, who requested anonymity, also confirmed the incident. The suspect was reportedly taken into custody and removed from the camp shortly after his arrest.
When contacted for comment, the spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, directed inquiries to the DSS, which carried out the arrest. Efforts to obtain further details from the DSS were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
