Four Court Cases Challenging Adeola Yayi’s Ogun 2027 Candidacy Discontinued
Four major court cases challenging the emergence of Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for Ogun State have been discontinued by the respective litigants.
The development comes as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 governorship election in the state.
According to a statement issued by Chief Kayode Odunaro, Media Adviser to Senator Adeola, the cases were voluntarily withdrawn in succession, with no specific reasons publicly given by the litigants for the discontinuation.
The statement said the development had been described as significant as the governorship campaign gathers momentum, adding that the litigants may have become convinced of the strength of Adeola’s candidacy.
One of the cases, Suit No. FHC/AB/CS/87/26, was instituted by Professor Awolola Awoniyi under the Freedom of Information Act 2011 against Adeola, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), APC, Guardian Newspapers Limited and the Inspector-General of Police.
Another case, Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/844/26, involved officials and members of different political parties, including the Ogun State chairmen of the Booth Party and Young Progressive Party, as well as members of the Action Democratic Party and Labour Party.
The other suits listed in the statement are FHC/ABJ/CS/989/2026 and FHC/ABJ/CS/884/26.
They involved some of the earlier litigants and others, including Dr. Olufemi Soluade, Ogun State Chairman of the African Democratic Party, Oluwabukola Soyoye Temitope of the Labour Party and Ogunremi Abiodu Oluwaseun.
The statement said Professor Awoniyi’s case was discontinued on August 24, 2026, while the remaining cases were withdrawn in open court on September 7, 2026.
It added that the defendants and their legal representatives were formally notified through Notices of Discontinuance.
Reacting to the development, Senator Adeola welcomed the withdrawal of the suits, saying his focus remained on delivering democratic dividends to the people of Ogun State.
He also pledged to intensify his mobilisation efforts across the state as preparations for the February 2027 governorship election gather pace.
