‘You Sell Water Without Subsidy’ — Zangina Fires Back at Atiku Over Fuel Price Promise

A political aide, S.A. Zangina, has criticised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over his promise to reverse the fuel subsidy policy and reduce petrol prices, describing the pledge as unrealistic and a desperate attempt to win support ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement titled “You Sell Drinking Water to the Masses Without Subsidy and You Promise the Impossibilities in Desperation to Lead,” Zangina challenged Atiku to demonstrate his commitment to the welfare of ordinary Nigerians by reducing the prices of products produced by his company.

Zangina specifically referenced FARO drinking water and juice, which are associated with Atiku’s business interests, arguing that if the former Vice President could not make basic drinking water more affordable to consumers, it would be difficult to convince Nigerians that he could successfully manage a nationwide fuel subsidy programme.

“Before you dream of reversing fuel subsidy for over 200 million Nigerians, why can’t you go and reduce the price of ordinary FARO pure water and juice for the common people of Adamawa and Nigeria?” Zangina asked.

He also questioned Atiku’s reported promise to crash petrol prices from around ₦145 per litre to ₦90, describing such a pledge as a campaign promise Nigerians should scrutinise carefully.

According to Zangina, “Charity begins at home,” insisting that Atiku should first demonstrate affordability in businesses linked to him before promising Nigerians cheaper petrol.

The political aide further accused the former Vice President of using subsidy-related promises to appeal to voters ahead of the 2027 elections.
“Stop deceiving Nigerians with subsidy lies to win 2027,” he said.

Zangina urged Nigerians to critically examine political promises ahead of the 2027 polls rather than accepting what he described as unrealistic pledges made for electoral advantage.
