U.S. AFRICOM Delegation Visits Maiduguri, Reaffirms Counterterrorism Cooperation
A delegation from the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) has visited the Headquarters Joint Task Force North East Operation Hadin Kai in Maiduguri, reaffirming ongoing counterterrorism cooperation between the United States and Nigeria in the Lake Chad region.
The delegation, led by Cameron Chen, arrived at the Maimalari Cantonment on May 20 and was received by the Deputy Theatre Commander, O.F. Akinboyewa.
During the visit, officials of Operation Hadin Kai provided a detailed briefing on the current security situation in the North-East as well as ongoing counterterrorism and counter-insurgency operations across the theatre.
Discussions between both sides focused on strengthening intelligence sharing, intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) support, logistics interdiction, and improving operational coordination within the Lake Chad basin.
The delegation also reviewed multinational efforts aimed at degrading terrorist capabilities and disrupting logistics supply networks operating across the region.
Security sources disclosed that both parties reaffirmed their commitment to sustained collaboration under existing counterterrorism and counter-insurgency frameworks, including preparations for Operation Lake Sanity III.
The visit, according to sources, was successfully concluded without any incident.
The renewed engagement underscores the growing military cooperation between Nigeria and the United States as efforts intensify to sustain pressure on terrorist groups operating in the North-East.
