Two Ogun Councils Generate N2.218b From Statutory Allocation, IGR

A total sum of two billion, two hundred and eighteen million naira (N2.218b) have been generated by two local government councils in Ogun State from statutory allocation and internal generated
revenues during the first half of the year 2020.

They are Yewa North local government council, and Imeko/Afon local government council respectively, both in Ogun West Senatorial district in the state.

The Transition Committee Chairmen for Yewa North and Imeko/Afon Local Government Councils, Bankole David and Oke Olusola stated this while presenting their 2020 budget performance before the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs led by Hon. Akeem Balogun.

In his council presentation, Oke noted that Imeko/Afon council recorded a total of N654m from independent revenue and statutory allocation within the period under review.

In the same vein, chairman, Yewa North council, Bankole said that N1.564b was realised from statutory allocation and internally generated revenue while N7.059m was expended on capital projects.

In another development, the Deputy Chief Registrar, Ogun State High Court, Mr Martins Akinyemi has disclosed that the sum of N34.4m was generated as internally generated revenue from court fees, fines and earnings from administrations of estates which include probate earnings.

Akinyemi noted this during the presentation of the budget performance of the judiciary before the committee on Justice, Ethics and Public Petitions led by Hon. Solomon Osho at the Assembly Complex, Oke-mosan, Abeokuta.

He intimated the lawmakers that efforts were being put in place to inaugurate Customary Court of Appeal, State Multi-door Court House, Sagamu and Magistrate Court at Igbesa.

However, Ogun State Judicial Service Commission has assured of its commitment to the sustainability of a vibrant judicial system through the appointment of eligible officers to various positions that will aid access to justice by the citizens.

Secretary to the Commission, Mrs. Olufunke Odubanjo gave the remarks while defending the 2020 budget performance before the committee.

Odubanjo said the commission within the period under review approved the appointment of two Chief Registrars for the High Court and Customary Court of Appeal and approved the appointment of an Acting Chief Registrar for the High Court, while the State High Court and Customary courts of Appeal got five new Deputy Chief Registrars.

She added that the commission consented to the appointment of a Coordinating Director for the State Multi-door Court House (OMDC) with the promotion of five eligible magistrates during the 2020 promotion exercise.
