Tinubu hosts Sultan of Sokoto in fresh round of high-level religious consultations
President Bola Tinubu on Friday met with the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, in a closed-door session at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The Sultan, who also serves as the President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, visited the State House days after the President held a similar private meeting with the Archbishop of the Abuja Catholic Diocese, Most Rev. Ignatius Kaigama.
The series of engagements comes amid growing public concerns over alleged religious persecution in parts of the country.
Before the meeting, the Sultan joined the Jummah prayers at the State House Mosque, where the imam, Alhaji Abdulwaheed Suleiman Abubakar, urged worshippers to continue supporting government efforts to sustain peace and security.
The imam stressed that peace is both a personal duty and a collective necessity for national development.
