Tinubu Commissions TETFund-Funded Education Projects Across Nigeria

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday commissioned a series of tertiary education infrastructure projects across Nigeria as part of activities marking the third anniversary of his administration.

The projects, delivered by the Federal Ministry of Education through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), are located in four federal and state-owned tertiary institutions across the North Central, North West and North East regions.

At the Nasarawa State College of Education, Akwanga, the President inaugurated a newly constructed School of Science Complex. The two-storey facility includes reading areas, staff and student e-libraries, offices for the Chief Librarian and secretarial staff, as well as reference and inquiry sections. The project is expected to strengthen the institution’s capacity to train science teachers for schools across Nasarawa State.

In Kaduna State, Tinubu commissioned two major projects at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Afaka Campus. The projects are the remodelled Senate Building and a new Biodiversity and Conservation Centre. The Senate Building features a 60-seat Senate Council Chamber, conference suites, executive offices, lift installations, CCTV surveillance, access control systems, public address facilities, fire suppression systems and a solar-powered backup system with lithium battery storage.

The Biodiversity and Conservation Centre is designed to boost environmental science research and provide facilities for biodiversity documentation, academic studies and conservation research.

At Hussaini Adamu Federal Polytechnic, Kazaure, Jigawa State, the President inaugurated a new Classrooms Complex constructed under the TETFund 2024 Special High Impact Intervention programme. The facility is expected to address classroom shortages and improve the learning environment for students and staff of the institution, which is known for training technical and vocational manpower in engineering, applied sciences, environmental studies, business and management.

The President also commissioned a newly built Students’ Hostel at Sa’adu Zungur University, Gadau Campus, Bauchi State. Constructed under the TETFund 2024 Annual Intervention programme at a cost of N738.9 million, the hostel is expected to ease accommodation challenges and support the institution’s growing student population.

Speaking during the commissioning exercise, Tinubu reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening tertiary education as part of efforts to bridge the nation’s skills gap and improve educational outcomes.

“When you build a classroom, you build a generation. The investment we are making in our colleges of education, polytechnics and universities today will determine the quality of every Nigerian schoolchild for decades to come,” the President said.

He also emphasized the importance of investing in military education, noting that the Nigerian Defence Academy remains central to the development of the nation’s armed forces.

“Our Armed Forces deserve the best — in training, in equipment and in the institutions that shape their character. The Nigerian Defence Academy stands at the heart of that mission, and we will continue to invest in its future,” he stated.

On technical education, Tinubu described polytechnics as critical to Nigeria’s workforce development, stressing that the country’s economic growth depends on practical skills acquired through quality training facilities.

The President commended the Minister of Education, the leadership of TETFund, contractors, consultants and management of the beneficiary institutions for the timely completion of the projects. He urged staff and students to ensure proper use and maintenance of the facilities.

The commissioning forms part of the Federal Government’s ongoing investment in tertiary education infrastructure under the Renewed Hope Agenda, implemented in partnership with TETFund and state governments hosting the institutions.
