Over 100 golfers for Alake’s 14th Coronation Golf Tournament

The Alake’s 14th Coronation Golf Tournament slated for Abeokuta Golf Club, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta has gathered momentum as over one hundred golfers are anticipated to participate at the event.

The one day golf tournament being organised by the Club in honour of His Royal Majesty, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, the Alake and Paramount ruler of Egba land will tee-off on November 23rd, 2019 between the hour of 7am till 11am.

Speaking on the club preparation for the golfing event, Captain of the Club, Adewale Adeogun confirmed that all necessary arrangements for the successful hosting of the event have been formalised.

The captain noted that golfers numbering over a hundred across major clubs in the country are coming for the game. Adding that the uniqueness of the tournament whom many golfers have been looking upon to yearly cannot be quantified.

“We are expecting golfers from Ikoyi golf club, Ikeja golf club, Lagos State; MicCom golf club, Osun State; Tiger golf club, Ibadan golf club, Oyo State. Also golfers from Ekiti and Kwara State as well as from Sagamu. In fact, golfers most especially from the whole of South West States and many others across the country will be here.

“The tournament is all about celebrating the 14th coronation anniversary of the kabiyesi, His Royal Majesty since he ascended the throne. Kabiyesi is a golfer, and we are using the opportunity to celebrate him being one of the golfers and Paramount ruler of Egba land.

“All categories except the professional will take part, be it men’s and ladies category, veteran and super veteran categories respectively. From handicap 0-28 for men, while handicap 0-36 ladies will take part,” Captain said.

Furthermore, he revealed: “Golfers expectations are to come and enjoy the hospitality of the game and the golf course. Because in the whole of South West, our course is unique and spectacular to play. We have the best golf course which is undulating course, unlike other course that are flat. Golfers are always at home to play at the club due to its peculiarity.

“The tournament will tee-off from 7am, but the Kabiyesi will perform the ceremonial tee-off in the morning while later in the evening, he will be around to present the giant trophy to the eventual winner as he used to do on yearly basis.

“Many traditional rulers and couple of other dignitaries from government are to grace the event, we are hoping to seeing them that day in the club to join us in appreciating  God’s goodness in the life of our Kabiyesi for clocking another wonderful and great year on the throne.

“However, there are lots of fantastic trophies and other prizes to be won by golfers that distinguished themselves at the tournament on that day.”
