Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke dumps PDP

Joins Accord Party in Stunning Political Shift

In a dramatic political realignment, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and defected to the Accord Party, bringing weeks of speculation to an emphatic close.

Adeleke’s departure was formally communicated through a resignation letter addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 2, Sagba Abogunde, in Ede North Local Government Area. The governor announced that his withdrawal from the party became effective on November 4, 2025.

In the letter, Adeleke attributed his decision to the deepening crisis within the PDP’s national leadership.

“Due to the current crisis within the national leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my membership of the People’s Democratic Party with immediate effect,” he wrote.

Adeleke’s exit marks a significant turning point for a politician whose rise—from senator representing Osun West to governor—was firmly anchored in the PDP. He acknowledged this legacy in his letter, expressing appreciation for the party’s role in his political ascent.

“I thank the People’s Democratic Party for the opportunities given to me for my elections as a Senator (Represented Osun West) and as Governor of Osun State under the People’s Democratic Party,” he stated.

With his move to the Accord Party, political observers say Osun’s political landscape may be in for a reshaping, especially with the 2026 governorship race on the horizon. The PDP, already battling internal strife, is expected to feel the impact of losing one of its most prominent figures.

Further reactions from party stakeholders and political analysts are anticipated in the coming days.
