Sultan of Sokoto Declares Monday as First Day of Rajab 1447AH
The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has declared Monday, December 22, 2025, as the first day of Rajab 1447AH.
The declaration was contained in a statement signed by the Wazirin Sokoto, Professor Sambo Wali Junaidu, who also serves as Chairman of the Sultanate Council Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs.
According to the statement, the committee, in conjunction with the National Moon Sighting Committee, did not receive any report confirming the sighting of the crescent moon of Rajab from any part of the country on Saturday, December 20, 2025, which corresponded to the 29th day of Jumada Assaniya 1447AH.
As a result, Sunday, December 21, 2025, was declared the 30th day of Jumada Assaniya 1447AH.
The statement added that the Sultan subsequently approved Monday, December 22, 2025, as the first day of Rajab 1447AH.
Rajab is one of the four sacred months in Islam and precedes the holy month of Ramadan.
