OGUN TEACHERS TAKES AMOSUN TO OONI OVER REFUSAL TO RE-INSTATE SACKED CHAIRMAN,3 OTHERS
The Ogun State Chapter of Nigerian Union of Teachers,(NUT),has explained that following neglect of 72 apology letters written to Governor Ibikunle Amosun to reinstate the sacked chapter chairman,Dare Ilekoyi and three others, the union has concluded to approach Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi to help intervene.
The National President of the Union,Michael Alogba made this known on Wednesday at the opening ceremony of the 6th Quadrennial Ogun Delegate Conference, held at NUT hall in Abeokuta.
The governor it will be recalled had in October, 2016 dismissed 33 teachers including the chairman of the state union Dare Ilekoya, over allegation of “misconduct” during the celebration of the World Teachers’ Day in October, 2016.
The state government had alleged that the affected teachers involved themselves in partisan politics by accepting money from an unamed politician whose praises they were singing during the celebration.
Amosun, however, after plea from the national leadership of the union recalled 31 of the sacked teachers, but has since remained adamant over the plight of Ilekoya and three others.
The union boss, represented by Saka Adesiyan,National Deputy President 11, while speaking at the conference to herald new executive of the union, said the sacked Ilekoya, according to the union rules and regulations still remain the chairman until his tenure lapses.
He also emphasised that, apart from the 72 apology letters written to Amosun, and neglected by him,the union has also addresses seven press conferences to appeal to the governor, yet he didn’t respond positively till date.
He further explained that ,it was in view of the governor’s adamant posture on the issue, that the union had to approach Ooni of Ife to mediate in the ongoing rift between the union and the state government.
Alogba said that national executive of the union visited the monarch earlier in April to help appeal to the governor,to re-instate the remaining four of its members by the state government.
