DSS Intelligence Warns of Imminent Boko Haram Attacks in Two States

A leaked intelligence report from the Department of State Services (DSS) has raised the alarm over an alleged plot by Boko Haram terrorists to launch coordinated attacks in parts of Adamawa and Borno states, with top government officials, traditional rulers, clerics and residents reportedly identified as potential kidnap targets.

According to details of the classified memo published by TheCable, the planned attacks are expected to focus on Michika Local Government Area of Adamawa State and Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.

The report quoted a DSS source as confirming the authenticity of the intelligence document.

The memo indicated that the planned operations were linked to the reported breakdown of a ceasefire arrangement between the insurgent group and the governments of the two states.

It stated that intelligence available to the DSS showed that Boko Haram fighters were preparing to carry out major attacks in the affected communities to demonstrate the collapse of the truce.

Among those reportedly marked as targets are senior government officials, councillors, district heads, pastors, residents of the two LGAs, as well as the District Head of Michika and his son.

The intelligence further revealed that the terrorists had already deployed surveillance operatives to monitor the targeted communities ahead of the planned assaults.

Following the alert, the DSS advised military formations and forest guards operating in the affected areas to strengthen security measures, increase surveillance and take proactive steps to prevent the attacks.

The warning comes amid renewed security concerns in Nigeria’s North-East, where Boko Haram and other insurgent groups have continued to stage deadly attacks despite ongoing military offensives against them.

As of the time of filing this report, authorities had not publicly announced any specific security measures being implemented in Michika and Askira-Uba in response to the intelligence alert.
