Oba Ogunwusi backs VGADA, an NGO campaigning against drug abuse

The Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi has threw his weight behind Vanguard Against Drug Abuse VGADA an NGO campaigning against drug abuse particularly among youths.
Ooni, who commended the NGO indicated interest in the organisation applauded the success recorded within the very short period of operation.
Oba Ogunwusi stated this when convener of the NGO, Doctor Hope Abraham Omeiza and his group paid him a visit in his palace on Monday.
The group was in Ife to intimate Oba Ogunwusi on the rising prevalence of drug abuse in the country and the relatively high percentage of female peddlers of illicit drugs in the south west.
Addressing the Monarch, Dr. Hope highlighted the steps VGADA has taken to combat drug abuse through the sponsorship of Dr. Mike Omotosho.
These steps, he said, ranged from sensitization by engaging the social media, televisions, radio station and the dailies, secondly on policy advocacy by proposing bills to the committee on Drugs and Narcotics, House of Representatives, National Assembly, and thirdly on Drug demand reduction by engaging secondary and tertiary institutions of learning, visiting hotspots to educate drug users directly, and providing online platforms for direct and indirect counselling to help drug users.
Dr. Hope disclosed the intentions of the NGO to intensify its efforts by improving on partnership with CBOs, NAFDAC, UNODC, NDLEA and other law enforcement agencies.
