Northern Governors grieve passing of former CJN, Justice Tanko Muhammad

Governors of the northern states have expressed deep grief over the death of former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad (GCON, rtd.), who died at the age of 71 in a hospital in Saudi Arabia.

In a statement, the Chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) and Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, said the news of the former CJN’s passing was received with profound sadness, describing it as a major loss to the nation, especially the judiciary and the legal community.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya noted that Justice Muhammad was an accomplished jurist whose career was marked by integrity, humility and an unwavering commitment to justice.

He said the late Chief Justice consistently upheld the highest standards of the Bench, earning respect for his fairness, courage and adherence to the rule of law.

According to him, Justice Muhammad’s tenure as Chief Justice of Nigeria was characterised by wisdom, balance and dedication to service, leaving behind a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire members of the legal profession.

On behalf of his colleagues, the NSGF Chairman extended condolences to the family of the deceased, the government and people of Bauchi State, and the entire judiciary, praying that Almighty Allah forgives his shortcomings and grants him Aljannat Firdaus.
