NNPC confirms explosion on Escravos–Lagos pipeline in Delta State
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has confirmed an explosion along the Escravos–Lagos Pipeline near the Tebijor, Okpele, and Ikpopo communities in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Delta State. The incident occurred at approximately 17:50 hours on December 10, 2025.
According to an official statement issued by Andy Odeh, Chief Corporate Communications Officer, initial findings revealed a significant pressure drop along an NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC) pipeline—an indication consistent with a loss of containment. The exact cause of the explosion remains under investigation.
NNPC emphasized that the safety of nearby communities and protection of the environment is its immediate priority. Emergency response protocols were activated soon after the incident was detected, with the company coordinating closely with state authorities, emergency agencies, and community leaders to mitigate potential risks and contain any impact.
“The cause of the explosion is still unknown but will be confirmed after a detailed investigation has been concluded,” the statement read. NNPC also reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the highest safety and environmental standards.
Residents in affected areas have been urged to remain calm as response teams continue work at the scene. Further updates will be released as verified information becomes available.
