NDLEA Says Drug Trafficking Trial of Abba Kyari Still Ongoing

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has clarified that the drug trafficking case involving suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, is still ongoing despite a recent court ruling that discharged him in a separate case.

The agency stated that the substantive drug-related charges against Kyari will continue before Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja, with the next hearing scheduled for March 16, 2026.

The clarification follows a ruling by James Omotosho, who discharged Kyari in a 23-count charge involving allegations of money laundering and failure to declare assets.

According to the NDLEA, the judgment delivered by Justice Omotosho relates to a different legal matter and should not be mistaken for the main drug trafficking case currently before Justice Nwite.

NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, said the agency’s legal team has been instructed to obtain the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the ruling before deciding whether to challenge the decision.

Babafemi stressed that the anti-narcotics agency remains committed to pursuing the drug trafficking allegations against Kyari to their logical conclusion in court.

The suspended police officer continues to face multiple legal challenges, with the NDLEA insisting that the principal drug case remains active and unaffected by the latest court ruling.
