NASENI Empowers 1,000 Lagos Residents with Clean Energy Solutions, Skills Training
The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has empowered 1,000 residents of Lagos State through its Sustainable Empowerment Programme (NSEP), providing clean energy solutions, livelihood support and practical skills training.
The Lagos edition of the programme, held on Friday, August 28, 2026, at the LTV Blue Roof in Ikeja, featured the distribution of 400 NASENI Power Stoves, 100 NASENI Home Solar Solutions and support packs to beneficiaries.
The agency also provided practical training in Plaster of Paris (POP) installation and electrical maintenance as part of efforts to equip participants with skills capable of generating sustainable income.
Speaking at the event, NASENI’s Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Khalil Suleiman Halilu, said the intervention reflected the agency’s commitment to deploying science, technology and engineering solutions to address real-life challenges confronting Nigerians.
Halilu noted that the Lagos intervention came a day after a similar programme was delivered in Ohafia, Abia State, stressing that NASENI was determined to extend its empowerment initiatives to communities across the country.
“Innovation only becomes meaningful when it solves real problems for real people,” he said.
According to him, the NASENI Power Stoves are designed to provide households with cleaner and more efficient cooking alternatives, while reducing reliance on traditional cooking methods and supporting Nigeria’s transition to cleaner energy.
He added that the Home Solar Solutions would provide households and small businesses with reliable renewable energy options, enabling them to extend productive hours and support economic activities.
Halilu explained that the Lagos programme was structured to go beyond the distribution of empowerment items by equipping beneficiaries with practical and market-relevant skills.
“These are practical skills with immediate economic value. The objective is not simply to train people, but to give them skills they can convert into services, businesses and sustainable sources of income,” he said.
He urged beneficiaries to make productive use of the equipment and skills provided, stressing that the success of the programme would ultimately be measured by its impact on household energy needs, employment, businesses and incomes.
Representing the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, the member representing Surulere I Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Fuad Kayode Laguda, commended NASENI for bringing the initiative to Lagos.
Laguda said the combination of practical skills training and empowerment products demonstrated the Federal Government’s commitment to translating its policies into tangible economic opportunities for citizens. He also called for the programme to be expanded to cover more communities across Lagos State.
Similarly, the Chairman of the Governing Board of the Nigerian Communications Commission, Idris Ibikunle Olorunnimbe, represented by the Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Akeem Dauda, commended NASENI for its focus on clean energy, skills development and sustainable livelihoods.
Dauda urged the beneficiaries to take advantage of the opportunities provided and use them productively.
The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Finance, James Abiodun Faleke, represented by the Executive Chairman of Ikosi-Isheri LCDA, Princess Samiat Abolanle Bada, also described the initiative as a practical demonstration of government intervention reaching citizens at the grassroots.
NASENI said the NSEP is designed to demonstrate how science, technology and engineering can be translated into jobs, enterprise development, cleaner energy, improved productivity and better livelihoods for Nigerians.
