Police disrupt PDP rally in Jigawa

Police in their hundreds have teargassed and dispersed members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party from holding their Zonal Campaign rally in Gumel, Jigawa State.
Investigations conducted by our correspondent revealed that the situation has plunged the ancient town into serious confusion, a situation that engulfed Gumel town into a catastrophic siege.
For example, all roads leading to the venue of the proposed gathering was fully barricaded by the police who said it was an order from the above.
Asked on what prompted the police taking such a panic actions on their members, the PDP spokesman, Babandi Ibrahim Gumel expressed surprise.
“All that I know, two weeks before the commencement of our gathering, we have secured police permission and granted, only to be teargassed on arrival to Gumel unprepared,” he added.
Contacted, the Jigawa State Police Spokesman, DSP Abdul Jinjiri, said “we are yet to receive signal on Gumel episode”, but assured to brief the press fully after getting certified information.
