Makinde Accused of Inciting Political Tension Amid PDP Crisis and Oyo State Disputes

Controversy has emerged around Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, following allegations that he is encouraging political unrest reminiscent of the South-West’s historic Operation Wetie crisis.

The claims, made by Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communicatio to the FCT, Nyesom Wike suggest that the governor’s recent actions and statements indicate frustration over his perceived declining influence within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

According to Olayinka, Makinde’s alleged ambitions—reportedly including a vice-presidential bid—have not materialized as expected.

The accusations also touch on several political disputes in Oyo State.

These include tensions surrounding the traditional leadership of Ibadanland, particularly involving the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, as well as disagreements linked to party politics and candidate selection within the All Progressives Congress (APC), including the role of Sharafadeen Alli.

Further concerns were raised about the management of funds reportedly allocated by the Federal Government following the January 2024 Bodija explosion in Ibadan.

Critics allege a lack of transparency regarding the disbursement of approximately ₦30 billion intended for victims, although no official findings confirming wrongdoing have been publicly established.

Olayinka’s statement concludes with a warning about the potential consequences of political rhetoric that could incite unrest, urging leaders to consider the broader implications of their actions.

As of now, Governor Makinde has not issued a formal response to these allegations.
