Lagos Governor’s Aide Recounts Recovery of Stolen Phone at APC Convention

….Links Suspect to Nasarawa Official

An aide to Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Wale Ajetunmobi, has narrated how his high-end mobile phone was stolen and later recovered during the recent All Progressives Congress (APC) National Convention in Abuja.

Ajetunmobi revealed that the incident took an unexpected turn when the suspected culprit was identified as a staff member of the Nasarawa State Ministry of Justice, who had attended the same political gathering.

The APC convention, which drew party leaders and supporters from across the country, took place between Friday and early Saturday at Eagle Square. However, amid the bustling event, Ajetunmobi discovered his phone was missing upon returning to his hotel.

He explained that he immediately used his iPad to track the device, which was already located in Wuse Zone 6, several kilometres from the venue. Despite repeated calls and messages to the phone, there was no response.

Determined to retrieve the device, he resumed tracking early the next morning and contacted a senior police officer in Abuja for assistance. This led to the involvement of a police team headed by Assistant Commissioner of Police, Victor Geoffrey, and field operatives led by ASP Isah Mohammed.

The tracking later pointed to a location in Karu, near an NNPC filling station. Acting on the information, Ajetunmobi joined the police team at the scene, where the signal led them to a roadside car lot near Karu Bridge.

According to him, the phone’s location narrowed down to a makeshift shelter where a group of individuals—reportedly returning from the APC convention—had gathered due to a vehicle fault. With the cooperation of the group’s leader, the police conducted a search.

During the search, one of the individuals reportedly became visibly uneasy. The missing phone was eventually found on him and later confirmed as Ajetunmobi’s after he unlocked it.

The suspect, identified as Mahmoud Abdullahi, who claimed to be affiliated with the Nasarawa State Ministry of Justice, was subsequently arrested.

Ajetunmobi commended the professionalism of the Nigeria Police Force, praising the officers involved in the swift recovery operation.
