Tinubu Launches Armed Forces Support Fund, Donates Personal Salaries on 74th Birthday

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the establishment of a special fund to support members of Nigeria’s Armed Forces, particularly wounded personnel and families of fallen soldiers, as he marked his 74th birthday.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the President said he had directed the Accountant-General of the Federation to create a dedicated account for the initiative, aimed at strengthening welfare support for military personnel.

According to him, the fund will provide assistance to those injured in active service as well as dependents of officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.

Highlighting his personal commitment, Tinubu revealed that he would donate all his salaries since assuming office as seed funding for the initiative, regardless of existing welfare and insurance schemes available to the Armed Forces.

He also called on state governors, members of the National Assembly, private sector stakeholders, and well-meaning Nigerians to contribute to the fund once details of the account are made public.

The President stressed the importance of honouring the sacrifices of military personnel, noting that supporting them and their families is a national responsibility rather than an act of charity.

Tinubu, who opted for a low-key celebration, said his decision was informed by the current challenges facing the country. He expressed gratitude to Nigerians for their prayers, goodwill messages, and continued support, describing it as a source of strength for his administration.
